I have been working remotely since 2016 and I think it is one of the most efficient ways of working that benefits both you as a person and the company. I don’t think I am less engaged by working from home, on the contrary, I think that because I am in the friendliest possible environment, I have a feeling I should work as efficiently as possible. The only distractions I could have are my own, nobody interrupts my work in any way, which means I am able to do things from start to finish. I agree that communication is key, and the one thing I do miss is actually the face 2 face contact with my fellow employees, but then again, I bet I would spend a lot of time needlessly chatting instead of doing the job. It is vital to have daily calls though in my opinion, it truly strengthens the feeling of being part of something bigger and it does help people create a bond. My office is over a thousand kilometers away from my home, but I get along great with my coworkers and superiors. Without the need to commute to the place, I save time for myself, family and friends. The one thing you really need when working from home is discipline, both to avoid too many distractions and to do more physical activity. You may be surprised what a daily walk to work can do for your health. That said, without the need to travel to work I saved enough time to do sports with friends in the evenings. There are really more benefits than disadvantages for everyone I think.
